This budget time expansion detector is designed for recording directly to tape. It has no loudspeaker and uses headphones for listening to the time expanded call. To keep costs to a minimum, it has no heterodyne system (unlike the Pettersson models) so cannot be used for listening in real-time, but is ideal for making recordings only. It uses a very high quality wide capacitance microphone and incorporates an EEPROM chip for upgrading the internal software. The detector can be carried using a neck halter cord for hands-free use.
